Prepare for First Job

Land Your First Job

Starting your first job can be a nerve-wracking experience. We’ve teamed up with our local business leaders to develop resources to support our students’ transition to the workforce and be successful young professionals.

Here are a few tips to help you land your first job.

Finding a Job & Application:

  • Research jobs and positions that match your interests.
  • Make a list of places to apply.
  • Search businesses in person and online. Many of Burlington’s employers post signs or advertisements for jobs in storefronts or on their business websites.
  • Search online using IowaWorks, Indeed, or other online job posting sites.
  • Prepare a simple resume.
  • When filling out an application use a black or blue ink pen and be sure to write nice and clean.
