Transforming the Talent Pipeline

Transforming the Talent Pipeline

Goal of the Talent Pipeline.

Elementary & Middle School

The beginning phase of the Talent Pipeline is geared towards elementary and middle school-aged students. The goal in this phase of life is to expose students to local careers & hands-on STEM activities in a fun, exciting environment.  The more positive of an experience students can have early in life, the more the students are likely to consider a career in that field.  Through the 5th & 8th-grade Career fairs, area students meet directly with area business people and hear what it is like working in different fields.  Career & motivational speakers is all about preparing students for the next phase of their lives.  CEO in the Classroom is a great hands-on presentation that kids students thinking about their future and challenges their perception of what it will actually be like when they start a career. 30 under 30 presentations help students connect with a local business person who is closer in age.  These presentations are geared toward helping students learn soft skills that will aid them in life as well as see the diversity of businesses where young professionals work. The Southeast Iowa STEM Festival is a perfect firsthand experience for younger students to see career opportunities in STEM. Local businesses offer hands-on activities that not give students a positive exposure to STEM jobs, but are fun.
