Downtown Burlington Recognized with Multiple Honors at 2026 Main Street Iowa Development Awards
BURLINGTON, IA — Downtown Burlington’s Main Street program proudly celebrated a milestone year, marking 40 years of impact while earning statewide recognition for leadership, business support, and placemaking at the 2026 Main Street Iowa Development Awards.
Held in West Des Moines, the annual awards ceremony brought together communities from across Iowa to celebrate excellence in downtown revitalization. Downtown Burlington was honored in multiple categories, highlighting the strength of its programs, partnerships, and community-driven initiatives.
Downtown Burlington received the following recognitions:
Business Support Award for the Block Captain Program, recognizing efforts to strengthen communication, mentorship, and engagement among downtown businesses
Placemaking Award (Small-Scale Activity) for the “Ali in the Alley” mural project on the 300 block of Jefferson Street, a creative community-led initiative that transformed a shared space into a vibrant gathering place
In addition, Downtown Burlington was recognized as part of Main Street Iowa’s 40th Anniversary celebration, honoring four decades of dedication to preserving and revitalizing the historic downtown district.
A team of 10 representatives from Burlington attended the event, proudly representing the community and its ongoing commitment to growth, collaboration, and innovation.
