Jefferson Street Farmers Market - By Addison Brown

It’s full of friendly farmers!

If you find yourself lucky enough to be in Burlington on a Thursday, be sure to check out the weekly farmer’s market! This farmer’s market takes place on Jefferson Street in downtown Burlington from 4:30pm to 7:00pm and runs from May to September.

There is a wide variety of vendors and products on Jefferson Street. It’s one of my favorite things about the Jefferson farmer’s market; the diversity of businesses. There are people from the Amish community, Veteran owned businesses, women owned businesses, young business owners, and of course local farmers. I love that communities of all kinds are welcome to share their homemade products with everybody.

The farmer’s market is a great place for new small businesses to get started, even if they have small business owners! The owners of Horseshoe Lake Microgreens informed me that their very close next-door competitors have been getting a lot of business lately.

The farmer’s market isn’t just a place where grandma and grandpa go to buy vegetables, although who could blame them? It’s all fresh and home-grown!

There are tons of things for kids to do too! There are multiple vendors with games that involve prizes and there is a craft table. Of course, there’s also plenty of sweet treats to try like cotton candy, shaved ice and ice cream.

Not only does this farmer’s market have food products, but there is also a variety of fashion products. There are jewelry vendors with pure silver jewelry and handmade jewelry. There are also sustainable clothing vendors such as downtown Burlington’s very own Gypsi on Jefferson.

In a place where you’re guaranteed to see a friendly farmer, the Jefferson Street Farmer’s Market makes the perfect Thursday afternoon.
