Burlington Civic Music Presents - Tango Buenos Aires, The Spirit of Argentina
October 5, 2017, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM (CST)
Tango Buenos Aires’ “The Spirit of Argentina” brings together an expert company of musicians, vocalists and dancers in a sensual, soulful and passionate celebration of the Argentinian tango and the most prominent figure in its history, Carlos Gardel. The company’s performance is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, 200 N. Front St., Burlington, Iowa. Great River Health Systems is sponsoring this performance.
The tango has captured the hearts, minds and spiritual bodies of Argentinians in the evolving history of this exciting dance. Gardel – a French-Argentinian singer, songwriter, composer and actor – became a tragic hero mourned throughout Latin America when he died in an airplane crash at the height of his career in 1935. For many, he embodies the soul of the tango style. His heart, mind and spirit lives within Tango Buenos Aires as they weave the tango’s history. The Spirit of Argentina tells Gardel’s story in song and dance.
Sometimes playful, sometimes dramatic and always sensuous, the fast and furious dancers of Tango Buenos Aires are known internationally as one of Argentina’s greatest cultural exports. Their swirling, fast-paced tapestry of movement is one of the world’s most authentic representations of the traditional art of the tango.
Single tickets for this performance are $35 ($10 for students). They may be bought through the Burlington Civic Music Association by calling 319-752-0336, or at the Port of Burlington Welcome Center every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets also will be available at Memorial Auditorium the night of the show.
