Higher Education

Greater Burlington's location in southeast Iowa is just about an hour's drive from multiple community colleges and four-year universities in both Iowa and Illinois.

These schools bring culture and diversity, connecting hundreds of bright, talented graduates with area employers every year. They also serve the educational needs to area adults and businesses through corporate training programs, adult degree programs, graduate degree programs, and non-traditional course delivery.

  • Southeastern Community College(SCC) – Located in West Burlington, SCC has proven to be an excellent partner in developing a skilled workforce. They design many of their programs based on the targeted needs of local industry.
  • Buena Vista University – Buena Vista University in West Burlington is located at Southeastern Community College. Students with at least 60 accredited college credits can transfer credits seamlessly to complete their degree locally.
  • Kaplan University –  Kaplan University offers a flexible learning experience, designed so that anyone with talent can develop it. We are an accredited university, offering more than 180 programs. Kaplan University also offers reduced tuition rates for active-duty military, their spouses, and veterans; and scholarships are available for those who qualify Kaplan University is regionally accredited.
  • Muscatine Community College – Founded in 1929, nearby Muscatine Community College enrolls more than 1,800 students each fall. Muscatine Community College houses the Industrial Technology Center (MITC), state-of-the-art, training facility.
  • Online Schools in Iowa – Iowa is home to many great programs that also offer online programs. These programs are designed to be flexible, ideal for students with busy schedules or families.
  • Iowa Wesleyan University – Founded in 1842, Iowa Wesleyan College is a private four-year liberal arts college that is the oldest coeducational college located west of the Mississippi River. Among its innovations are unique concepts of undergraduate lab science, career experience, and service learning.
  • Monmouth College – Monmouth College offers a comprehensive liberal arts experience. Founded on April 18, 1853, Monmouth is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church was one of the first institutions in the country to admit women from its inception, increasing the college's early popularity and made it the home of the women's sorority movement.
  • St. Ambrose University – St. Ambrose University is a private Midwestern university rooted in its diocesan heritage and Catholic Intellectual Tradition. Founded in 1882 in Davenport, Iowa, St. Ambrose offers over 70 majors.
  • Western Illinois University (WIU) - Located 50 miles from the Greater Burlington area, Western Illinois University is composed of two campuses that provide a wide range of academic programs.
  • University of Iowa – The nearby University of Iowa is a research university and the oldest public university in the state. It has a prestigious reputation amongst universities in the US and is considered a 'Public Ivy' institution.
  • Accredited Standards for Online Colleges – There are other options for college outside of Iowa that can be pursued in-state. Accredited online programs are available for students everywhere as long as they have internet access.
