Community Leaders in the Classroom is a pilot program that brings local business owners and professionals into 8th-grade classrooms, to discuss life after high school and the transition into becoming young professionals. Speakers will touch on living expenses, careers and their own lived experiences as professionals in the Des Moines County area.
Community Leaders in the Classroom paints the picture of the financial benefits for students when they chose in-demand careers and education pathways that lead to great paying local jobs in our low cost of living communities. The program helps draw a contrast to student loan debt associated with empty degrees with nor real career opportunity.
Educators, students and local business leaders are providing feedback as part of the pilot project. If well-received, Community Leaders in the Classroom will be offered to every 8th-grade classroom in both public and private schools throughout the region.
