The Som’s First Annual Chili Cook Off
When: Sunday October22nd at 11am (Teams may arrive earlier to set up cook station)
Where: The Som Parking Lot
What teams should bring:
Prepping Table
Possibly a pop up canopy(To keep out of the sun)
Their own means to cook the chili(Propane burner, Turkey fryer, charcoal grill, Propane Grill, Electric Roaster)
Lounge chairs
Proper cooking utensils
Hand sanitizer
Two cutting boards, one for raw meat, one for produce
$30 Entry Fee
$3 Tasting cups will be available to the public so they can vote for crowd favorite
Teams should consist of 1 or 2 people
The Som will supply cooking gloves and a sanitizer bucket to sanitize cooking surfaces.
All food should be transported to the competition area in coolers to keep food at food safe temperatures.
Any team that has unsafe food practices will be disqualified.
The meat used in the chili may be cooked before the competition. All other ingredients need to be cut and prepped on site.
Your chili will be allowed to be cooked from 11am to 3pm
There are two categories Red Chili (with beans or without beans) and an Open Chili category. The Open category consists of Green Chili, White Chili, Vegetarian Chili.
Both categories will be judged on the following criteria
Smell
Thickness
Color
Flavor
Aftertaste
Entry forms will be available at The Som Sunday 10/8
All entry forms must be turned in by Wednesday 10/18
There will be a live DJ, food and drinks specials during the competition!
