Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Episcopal Church was designed by Burlington architect Charles Dunham and built in 1884 on the northwest corner of North Hill Park. This church is visible to travelers on Highway 34 and from North Hill Park, and it is well worth the short walk from downtown to see it.  The lights highlight the early English type architecture, which includes a round tower that squares off to become a steeple with a gabled roof.  The rusticated stone and the arched windows are influenced by the Romanesque Revival style.  The buttresses were added a 1973 fire to address structural concerns.  There is a double parapet wall on the east façade with a cross on the further back wall.

The light plays wonderfully on this light colored, native stone church and brings out the architectural features that make this church unique. Viewing Christ Episcopal Church from the serenity of North Hill Park gives a distinctive European feel.
