Gus Macker Going On This Weekend

On Saturday morning 138 teams from all over the region will converge on the downtown Burlington riverfront for the inaugural Burlington, Iowa Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.  552 players, comprised of all ages and skill levels, will compete in their divisions for the coveted Gus Macker Trophy.  The tournament was brought to the area by the Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Festivities will be kicked off on the Mississippi River courts between the Memorial Auditorium and Port of Burlington Friday, August 3 with an opening night celebration.  At 6:30 PM, The Midwest Magic will go head to head with the Burlington Fire Department.  Following, the Great River Health System Athletic Trainers take on the Great River Orthopaedic Specialists at 7 PM.

The tournament proper will begin at 8 AM Saturday, August 4 and run through Sunday, August 5.  Dining, shopping and the Family Fun Zone will be on hand to entertain players and spectators in between games. 

Along with the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Tournament, highlighted special events will take place Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday, August 4 at Noon contestants put their athletic prowess and creativity to the test as they compete in the Dunk Contest.  Sunday, August 5 from 10 AM – 2 PM athletes can complete in the Around the World.   Contestants see how far they can go around the court in 60 seconds by making shots at selected locations.  Presenting sponsor for the event is Great River Health System.
