GREATER BURLINGTON TO HOST FIREBALL RUN SEPTEMBER 26 – 27, 2017
GREATER BURLINGTON TO HOST FIREBALL RUN SEPTEMBER 26 – 27, 2017
BURLINGTON, IOWA- The public is invited to Downtown Burlington on Tuesday, September 26, and Wednesday, September 27 to welcome Amazon’s Fireball Run: Big Country, the show’s 11th season to be filmed live! Attendees will have the chance to meet the teams, see their cars, and show off their community pride!
Fireball Run is a legendary 8-day, 2,000 mile life-sized trivial pursuit road rally competition, filmed in real-time. Approximately 40 teams from across the country will battle it out while taking the road less traveled to explore under-discovered places and obscure historic artifacts, all while aiding in America’s largest active recovery effort for missing kids.
“When I heard how participating in Fireball Run would give me the opportunity to showcase this city I love, I was immediately excited. When I later learned that the catalyst of Fireball Run is to bring much needed attention to missing children in this country, well that put it completely over the top. I’m all in!”—Burlington Mayor Shane McCampbell
Tuesday's events will take place from 3 - 6 PM at the corner of 4th and Jefferson Streets, where music and local car clubs will add to the excitement. On Wednesday, teams begin the next leg of their journey at 7 AM and the green flag will drop at 9 AM for their departure from Burlington.
Each season of Fireball Run the teams are assigned a missing child to actively advocate for during the adventurally. This partnership with the Child Rescue Network is America’s largest active recovery effort for missing kids. In 10 seasons, the contestants have aided in the recovery of 50 missing children.
Team Burlington has been assigned the case of Erin Pospisil from Cedar Rapids. Erin went missing in 2001 at the age of 15. Her story can be found at ErinPospisilIsMissing.org. Team Burlington will distribute over 1,000 posters throughout the 2,000 mile journey to see if they can learn anything new about Erin's whereabouts.
