Julie Meloan Bell
Julie Meloan Bell is the manager of the Port of Burlington Welcome Center. She grew up across the river in Henderson County, Illinois, but spent a good amount of time shopping on Jefferson Street on Friday nights, and going to Sunday evening band concerts at Crapo Park. An education major at Monmouth College, she went back to school and spent 25 years in the medical field. After welcoming countless babies into the world, Julie now welcomes visitors to the Greater Burlington.
Along with greeting the many travelers that visit the Welcome Center, Julie also has the pleasure of working with an amazing group of knowledgeable and welcoming volunteers. She is responsible for keeping the displays current, and having almost 300 brochures on places to visit in Iowa well stocked. She has coordinated riverboat dockings and bus tours of the area. The Port of Burlington Welcome Center serves as a TicketMaster Box Office, and you can buy your tickets there for performances at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium and Burlington Civic Music.
Julie also volunteers in the community by helping with the literacy programs in the school district, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Relay for Life, and has been a Hospice volunteer since 1997. She has been a licensed real estate agent in both Illinois and Iowa. She also enjoys working for the Burlington Bees while being a mom to three.
“It’s been fun moving back and becoming reacquainted with the friendly people of Burlington. It’s an exciting time for Greater Burlington and I am grateful to live and work in beautiful historic Burlington!”
